Description
Long term catheter use effects millions of people each year. Urine is collected in an external drainage bag, typically held in a simple wire frame. These bags and frames cause many difficulties in handling, emptying and cause particular distress and stigmatization through the visibility of up to 2L of urine at home.
Shield is a simple low-cost redesign that utilises recycled single use disposable plastic sterilisation tray wraps and drapes, commonly used in hospital operating theatres. Shield replaces a design that has not changed in 50 years by providing a stable platform and secure handle which discreetly hides the bags contents from view.
